BMT Appoints New Chairman

Dr. Neil Cross has been appointed Chairman of BMT Ltd from 1 January 2006. Neil has been a non-executive Director on BMT's Board since 1997 and is currently Chairman of the Board's Investment Sub-Committee, a member of the Audit Sub-Committee and a Trustee of the BMT Employment Benefit Trust.
Educated at the universities of Exeter and Edinburgh, Neil has a PhD in surface chemistry and is a FCIS (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators).
Neil had some 27 years' experience with 3i Group plc, eight of which were as a main Board Director with responsibility for international investment. Prior to this he had extensive experience of investing in UK companies. His management responsibilities have also included planning and operations, human resources, corporate finance and internal audit.
After a successful career with 3i Group he retired in 1996 and now has a number of non-executive and advisory positions in both listed and private companies. He is presently a non-executive director of Alliance UniChem plc, The Bayard Fund, Bernard Matthews Holdings Ltd and Dawson Holdings plc.
He is also Chairman of Close Technology & General VCT plc, a member of the Investment Committee of the Unilever Pension Fund, an advisor to The Fifth Causeway Development Fund and Baring European Private Equity Fund and Vice President of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce.
Neil succeeds David Goodrich, BMT’s previous Chairman and former President of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), who died on 30 October 2005.
On his appointment Neil said: "It is a privilege to succeed the late David Goodrich, who was so instrumental in the founding and development of BMT to make it the successful international business it is today."
