Specialist Environmental Support Contract Won By BMT Defence Services Limited

20-Jan-2005

A new contract to provide specialist environmental support to a key naval programme, the Joint Casualty Treatment Ship (JCTS), has been awarded by the UK Ministry of Defence to BMT Defence Services Ltd, it is announced today.

Originally known as the "Primary Casualty Receiving Ship" (PCRS), and announced in the Strategic Defence Review, the programme was renamed in April 2003 to become the JCTS. The JCTS differs from a hospital ship in that it operates as part of a maritime task force and is not subject to the kinds of restrictions that the Geneva Conventions place on a white-painted, red-cross, hospital ship.

BMT Defence Services has been commissioned to implement the new Project Orientated Environmental Management System (POEMS), to deliver environmental support to the JCTS integrated project team.

Clive Adams, Business Unit Director for safety and environment at BMT, said: "We are well known for our one-stop safety and environment work on existing warships, auxiliaries, submarines and increasingly on non-naval defence systems. The award of this contract is recognition of our ability to deliver environmental support services during the development phases of major new naval programmes."
