BMT De Beer publishes comprehensive guide to storage and transit of Bulbs, Cut Flowers/Greens and Potted Plants

04-Mar-2010

BMT De Beer Consolidated Manual BMT De Beer, a subsidiary of BMT Group, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has published ‘BMT De Beer's Consolidated Manual On (Dutch) Flower Bulbs, Cut Flowers/Greens and Potted Plants'.

The new manual includes an extensive range of background and operational information covering all common types of flower bulbs, cut flowers/greens and potted plants from tulips to Christmas trees. It provides a comprehensive reference guide that will be invaluable especially for shippers, container operators, surveyors, claim handlers, lawyers and all others involved in the transportation of this refrigerated cargo.

Written by reefer shipping specialist Harm de Haan, ‘BMT De Beer's Consolidated Manual On (Dutch) Flower Bulbs, Cut Flowers/Greens and Potted Plants' draws on BMT De Beer's unrivalled knowledge and experience advising clients working with perishable cargos.

Mr de Haan has over 25 years of experience in reefer shipping and is a member of the ICCT (International Cold Chain Technology, Cambridge). His previous publications include: ‘BMT De Beer's Consolidated Manual on the Transportation of Perishable Cargo in Reefer Containers' (2005) and ‘BMT De Beer's Consolidated Manual on Postharvest Handling, Cooling and Storage of Fruit and Vegetables' (2008).

Author Mr de Haan said "In 2006, the Netherlands exported an estimated nine billion flower bulbs to more than 100 countries with more than 50% of the export going outside the EU. The international trade in flowers and plants is equally extensive. The scale of this specialist activity warrants specialist knowledge and experience to ensure that cargoes reach their destinations in optimum condition. This publication provides the wherewithal to help stakeholders achieve this outcome.

"I believe that this guide will become the de facto reference document for this sector because it provides a distillation of considerable industry expertise, intelligence and learning in a single, easily accessible document." said Managing Director of BMT De Beer, Jeroen de Haas.

The book is available to order from www.bmtdebeer.com at a price of €85.
